Custom field type for file upload is now available in AJAX Register (v2.4.0).
Users can upload images (jpg, gif, png) or documents (PDF). They can upload on registration or profile, or both, the field can be required or not and they can remove the file.
The uploaded files are stored at /media/com_ajaxregister/ and are removed as users replace them, delete them or if you delete the user or uninstall the component (so no junk is left on the server).
It took some more time than expected, it took a while to get it right and test everything both on 2.5 and 3.0.
