Not sure how to upgrade...

Reading some recent posts here, I'm not sure how to proceed to upgrade from 5.0 to 5.3
I read that it was necessary to upgrade first to 5.2 but the download link is just for the last version.

What should I do ?

It's best to just uninstall and install again, enter the settings and aliases again.

If you would want to upgrade without losing and entering the settings again then replace all component files with FTP and follow the database upgrade procedure described here:
