Spaces in URL

I recently noticed that the Ask spider was looking for pages with spaces in the URL, for example:

www.mysite.tld/category/the-page-name/%20

Which was being redirected (301) to:

www.mysite.tld/category/the-page-name/%20/

With a 200 found.

Of course the page returned is the same as this one:

www.mysite.tld/category/the-page-name/

Is there any way that SEF Advance can prevent spaces in the URL?  I'd prefer to clean out the space, but I'd rather return a 404 than a 200 if the page doesn't really exist.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

When I try to access such link I get 404:
joomla.sakic.net/the-news/%20/

I noticed that you get a 404 only at the root, section, or category level.  If you go to a page of content like:

joomla.sakic.net/the-news/latest-news/example-news-item-4/%20/

You do get a 200.  As a matter of fact, you can put anything at the end and get a 200:

joomla.sakic.net/the-news/latest-news/ex...item-4/weradklnacoin
