both section and category name in url - required?

I may have missed this in the FAQ, my apologies if already addressed.
We have our content set-up with the section and category names as the same:
www.lookoutmountaincc.org/communities/communities/young-adult/
Feels awfully redundant. Best way to get rid of the sections or category names? They're all unique if that helps. Ideal is something more like:
www.lookoutmountaincc.org/communities/young-adult/

Seems a bit of a wierd way of doing things, if I was in a similar situation I would have one main section, called "content" and then all of your categories within this one section.
This means that you then get /content/communities/young_adult/
Obviously you could substitute content to just "c" so you have /c/communities/young_adult
