Blogcategory and blogsection links are different in 1.0 and 1.5 and thus it can't be redirected automatically. Us .htaccess to setup a manual redirect (search the Google, I can't give you the exact syntax from the top of my head).

i'm actually adding the redirect to .htaccess and it's not working for some strange reason
is there any potential reason why this could be the case?

Because you are not adding it right. It's little tricky and takes some time of trial and error so I can't give you the exact syntax. It's not something I can support either because it's not directly SEF Advance related.

Redirect /blogcategoryurlhere www.mydomain.com/news/category
and i thought that was all i needed to change as i'm just changing one URL to another ..
your solution looks a little more complicated .. so i'll have a play

Simple Redirect won't work since you have a query string. That's what used to trouble me too. You will have to use RewriteRule of mod_rewrite as in the example I sent.
