New version of SEF advance has been released.
Version 4.3 adds compability with the upcoming Joomla! 1.1 and also introduces some new exciting features and a safer encoding technique.
What's new in SEF advance 4.3?
-----------------------------------------
The main change in new SEF advance is support for the upcoming Joomla! 1.1.
In Joomla! 1.1 SEF functionality is moved into a system mambot. To support this new system SEF advance 4.3 has a different file structure. You will notice that it includes few more files than previous versions. In the same time SEF advance 4.3 is fully backwards compatible with the older versions of Joomla! and Mambo.
Thus, SEF advance 4.3 will work on Joomla! 1.0 and 1.1 and on Mambo 4.5.0, 4.5.1, 4.5.2 and 4.5.3 with all minor subversions.
Different installation procedures may be required for different CMS versions though.
Another important change in SEF advance 4.3 is the new script encoding technology.
Due to the increased piracy SEF advance 4.3 now ships encoded with a safer security layer. The technology used is ionCube encoding (http://www.ioncube.com).
With the new encoding system, access to SEF advance source code becomes virtually impossible. Unfortunately this also means that the webmaster has to go through few extra steps in installing the script and getting stuff to work, but this had to be done to protect SEF advance and its customers against dishonest people.
There are several new features in the new SEF advance
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Improved 404 handling
From now on you will be able to define an internal content item as default "404 Not Found" page. When trying to access a non-existing address this page will be displayed and correct 404 headers will be returned. So you are no longer required to use a physical file for correct 404 headers to be returned on error.
The internal 404 page can be easily set by selecting it from a drop-down list in SEF advance configurations.
- Improved Mambelfish support
If you are using Mambelfish for handling a site with multilingual content you can now have unique URLs for every language version of your content.
For example if you have the same content item in English and German, two different versions of the article can be directly accessed using following URLs:
http://www.site.com/en/section/category/item.html
http://www.site.com/de/section/category/item.html
This feature will ensure that all language versions have own URLs so the search engines can index all language versions of the site, not only the one in default language.
