There are some important changes in the distribution model of SEF Advance. As of now, all of our Joomla extensions, including SEF Advance, are distributed under the terms of GNU / GPL v2 license. This means that, effective today, SEF Advance becomes open source, just like Joomla itself. This change also means there will be some changes in how the product is supported from now on. Read on to learn what this means and how it will affect you as a user.
The license change means that the distribution and support plan for new users of SEF Advance had to change.
From now on, buying SEF Advance entitles you to support on a single site and free upgrades for 12 months from the purchase date. After 12 months you may continue using SEF Advance but you won't get support nor the upgrades unless you renew the subscription.
If you buy a developer plan, it entitles you to support on all sites you install SEF Advance on, and you get free upgrades for the lifetime of the product.
Having the new plans means that, within the subscription period, you also get major software revisions, like SEF Advance for Joomla 3, when available, without paying anything extra.
So, instead of having multiple iterations as we did, like SEF Advance 2008 for Joomla 1.5, SEF Advance 2011 for 2.5 and paying migration fees beetwen them, we now simply have one and only: SEF Advance.
How does this affect current users?
It doesn't. The change is only for new users. If you are current user of SEF Advance it will not affect you at all. You purchased SEF Advance under the old license terms and you may continue using it under the terms you accepted. However, SEF Advance will no longer be distributed by any license or terms other than GPL. So, if you would like to jump on the GPL bandwagon, for example to gain access to its source code etc. you will have to purchase a new copy under the new terms.
