It makes the character, it's just URL encoded. If you want to skip it completely use alias (automatic or manual).

If you want them replaced then you should use URL replace, for example ;=>something
But I don't recommend that as it can lead to errors if not understood correctly. Use alias instead (Use title alias -> Yes) and you will have no special characters in your links.
